What can be said about The Rails that has not already been said?

I first came here in 1994 as a young backpacker. And over the years have made several return visits.

Refreshing to see that nothing, nothing, has changed over the years. The same great characters. The same food hatch. And still a great selection of live bands.

Recommended.

Great beer, great music, but atmosphere could use some improvements as I sat at a 3 sided table where there was no space for my legs to go under the table so my legs had to swing outwards and my back was facing the stage? As a result I looked like a loser (see reference photo) and no one approached me the whole night, was pretty lonely and got really self conscious. If you're in a group and want a great bar would definitely recommend, but be sure to avoid these weird tables where no one talks to you.

Great place. Really lively with music every night from a different band. Lots of beer options if on the expensive side. Did not eat so have not rated the food

We are here on holidays, read a couple good reviews so we thought we would give it a try. I don't know why they say friendly bar as the staff didn't smile once and the staff were quite passive. I ordered ribs it was the driest ribs I had ever received as a added bonus there was a long black hair (my hair is light brown) & when I informed the staff there was no offer for a refund or a sorry (I had about 2 bites) with the amount of options in Byron I strongly suggest trying another venue and paying the extra. Apart from the staff, atmosphere was fairly nice. Cheers.

The beer was great, and happy hour helped. I recommend the stone and wood larger.

It was quite busy outside so we sat inside. I love how they had the heaters going outside though.

Great bar in Byron Bay! We went for a drink and were lucky that a live band was playing! Good vibes, we had a good time!

Had the Smoked Pork Nachos & Cider and OMG it was AMAZING...hidden gem in Byron that you can't miss. Staff were great too...

Favorite place in Byron Bay to grab a beer. Feels more like a locals atmosphere than a lot of the bars downtown. Decent food for a good price

This was our first stop in Byron. We went two nights in a row and had glaringly different experiences each time. The first night we had delicious drinks, and friendly service. The second time they charged me $5 more for the same drink. I asked what the difference was, in hope that whatever it was, it could be fixed before the next drink. It was a vodka ginger and lime. The staff member was explaining and a manager cut in and said that I was charged incorrectly over the course of the previous night. It wasn't said with kindness, it was direct and quite rude. Definitely awkward. So we went elsewhere after that drink.

Great place for a great night. Pink Zinc were amazing!!! Service was good considering it was very busy. Only had some some chips to snack on but they were great chips. Highly recommend!

A great vibe, the chicken parmy was great. Although the chips were soggy. Live music was a real plus and added to the atmosphere

This is the most rude place I ever been all around Australia !!!
It is very hard to describe the rudeness of this place!
I wanna start from the beginning, we went a couple of night earlier with my two very small dogs whom I always hold them . We sat and drink something the waitress saw us and smiled few times.
In saying that are signs everywhere of 'NOT SMOKING' but every one smokes cigarettes....... And they are allowed to do so!
We came back another night I was waiting for my husband whilst grabbing something drink.
A very rude girl approached me saying not pet are allowed on the premises.
I said that I went there before and the guy didn't say a word!
She said this is impossible as I m the unique one working on the floor.???
She said to leave immediately or tight the dogs outside.
I said I wait for my husband and I go she was so rude "You have 5 minutes "
Ok I said.
Right away the even more rude manager came and kick me out !
Meanwhile my husband came and said I drink and I go in 5
The manager said to drink the beer outside we moved and he came by us saying u cannot drink here and then it escalated he swore at me just because I said relax man I didn't see the not dogs allowed signs here but u don t need to speak with me like that life is once calm down!
He liked to show his power of being a bully and started swearing at me then he approached my husband taking the beer out of his hand throwing the beer onto the floor.........
I never ever been in a place and being treated like this and I have been around Australia a lot.
Yes we made a mistake to go in but there is not need to bully or swear at someone in that way ......
I was rattled pls save your money and go somewhere else when you are in town!

Here for a holiday from Victoria but wasn't allowed in as the manager didn't believe my ID was real when have been 18 for a year now and was very rude about checking it again when asked. Was very enthusiastic about eating here with the live music but now very disappointed. Hope they learn how to check ID's for the next hungry customers!!

Nice location and setting. Unfortunately it seems ordering food from the guy at the kitchen is really putting him out as he pouted and pulled faces the whole time as though he was a teenage girl being asked to clean their room. Im writing this before eating my meal as the experience is already ruined for us. The food can now be spectacular and the rating will stay the same.

Excellent venue, food, ambience and beer! Well worth a visit also for the live music.

Well you punters out there that like a bit of variety of craft beer and like to mingle with locals go no further stop here. My favourite was Ben and gerrys go for a meal and enjoy

We drove down for a week here before lock down. Went here for a night, The manager was awesome, one of the bar maids told us "they didn't want us there as we were from Brisbane which had covid cases". We assured them that there was currently more cases in NSW and we just wanted to have a drink there hassle free. Didn't feel welcome at all

No trip to Byron is complete without a visit to the Railz where locals and visitors mingle harmoniously. Go in the afternoon for a few chilled drinks, go in the evening to take in one of the amazing (and diverse) live bands. Not dog friendly though, which is a shame. I would be there a lot more if I could park myself with the hounds (just a small section of the non-food area would be nice)

Been backpacking in Aus for 2.5 years and this was my favourite pub experience. Went on a Friday night, live music from 'Pink Zinc' who were brilliant.

Cheap beer, great vibes and atmosphere. I loved this place and I reckon it's worth a night in Byron purely for a few cheeky beers in this place.

Came here for some ml live music and great food and drinks and that's exactly what we got! The atmosphere is intensely peaceful and entertaining.

Whenever we visit Byron the Railway bar is always our first stop. Top place, great vibes and atmosphere. Good pub grub food.

A rainy day in Byron but at the Rail it's all go. Great music the staff are the greatest. The husband and wife team feeding hungry visitors are brilliant. Check out the beautiful chicken dish coated in pomegranate molasses. Perfectly cooked and tender. Thanks team.
