Play Pokies at Nudgee Golf Club in Nudgee

First impressions were excellent. Nudgee seems a really well-run and organised club, with a great pro shop, good booking system and everything very professional.
My wife asked me afterwards whether I\'d play it again and my immediate answer was no - it\'s just too difficult. Normally when a golfer says that, it\'s because he\'s played badly! But that genuinely wasn\'t my issue with Nudgee.
The course is largely flat and the fairways are reasonably generous, but the bunker positioning makes some holes unnecessarily unfair. There are several where bunkers sit around 240 - 250 yards from the tee and effectively take away the fairway for a reasonable golfer. Hit a really good drive and you can be punished; deliberately miss the bunkers and you\'re potentially aiming into the rough. I don\'t mind being punished for a bad shot, but I don\'t particularly enjoy being punished for a good one.
The green complexes are similar. They look fantastic, but many are raised, almost upturned saucers, with surprisingly little usable landing area from front to back. On some approaches the bunkering also means you can\'t properly see the flag or even which side of the green it\'s on. Once you\'re there, the greens are lightning quick with huge humps and hollows.
I\'m a 7 handicap and enjoy a challenging golf course, but there\'s a difference between difficult and unfair. Nudgee crossed that line too often for me. If I played to my handicap around there I\'d feel I\'d played an exceptional round, and I\'m not sure that\'s what everyday club golf should be about.
A very impressive club and visually some brilliant green complexes, but unfortunately the course is just on the wrong side of tough for me. If I were a member, I think it would eventually drive me nuts.

**Dangerous safety breach ignored by clubhouse staff**

Management needs to address a major safety breach and staff attitude problem today (8th July 2026 at 9:20 AM). On the path between the clubhouse and the driving range, a father was letting his ~8-year-old son drive a motorized Yamaha cart (Number 49).

I personally walked into the clubhouse to report this immediately, but the staff member I spoke to was completely indifferent and unconcerned. This is an incredibly unsafe liability, and the fact that staff can\'t be bothered to enforce standard safety rules is a major red flag for this facility. I have video proof of the incident if management actually cares to look into it.

Good course. Green fees aren\'t the cheapest in Brisbane though. Better value on the Northside at Keperra and Virginia.

Stopped here on a Sunday morning, not for golf but for coffee and a snack during our morning bike ride. Located next to the Kedron Brooke Bikeway, with plenty of places to leave the bike. Outdoor terrace with nice views over the golf course. Sausage rolls really hit the spot.
