Services was excellent. He (staff at the bar) makes us feel very welcome when we walked in to the pub with our little well behaved pug. Most important is he can make the Best "Lemon Lime Bitter" in NSW... All of us agree with this compliment. Mushroom sauce that was served with chicken schnitzel is also hardly beat by any....so yummy. Will certainly come back when we visit Armidale next time. Super impressed with quality of food & drink, and friendly service.??'???'???'?

What a fantastic pub, open fire places with an old country feel, it smelt nice with the wood burning and it was nice and warm because it was bloody cold outside, the meal was awesome I had steak chips and veg with peppercorn sauce and of course a few ice cold beers, do yourself a favour if your in Armidale call in for a meal.

We visited The New England Hotel without a booking. They had space which was great. We sat in the back raised area which isn't as nice as the front by the bar. The disused pizza looking kitchen looks like a storage dumping area and the mould ceiling could be attended to. Even if it's a patch job regularly.
The food was good, the presentation in a red plastic basket could be improved with a plate to make the meal easier to eat off.
The staff were friendly which is always important to me, as much as the food quality. We ordered 2 x chicken burgers for the adults which we enjoyed, and 2 x kids cheeseburgers. One kid ate. The other didn't due to the type of cheese ????. Chips were good!
I would recommend for a bite to eat if you stumble across this pub.

I recently visited The New England Hotel, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the sticky floors, which made it difficult to walk around without feeling uncomfortable. The entire venue had an unpleasant smell, which did not help the situation.

To make matters worse, the audio mixing was terrible. The music was far too loud, and the sound quality was awful. It was impossible to hold a conversation without shouting, which made the whole experience frustrating and unpleasant.

The staff were also incredibly rude and unhelpful. When I approached the bar to order a drink, the bartender was dismissive and didn't seem interested in serving me. To top it off, the drinks were overpriced and not worth the money.

Overall, I would not recommend The New England Hotel. The sticky floors, terrible audio mixing, rude staff, and overpriced drinks all contributed to a disappointing and unpleasant experience. Save yourself the trouble and find somewhere else to go.

I didn't stay very long but it was an enjoyable stay. My meal (pepper steak pie) was very tasty and a good hearty serving. The staff member was lovely. The beer was cold and wet. What more could you want?

This place really has a lot of potential.
But I've visited over the last four years and the front bar is need of serious renovations and the service in th restaurant is poor.
The front bar could be great and drinks are well priced, but they could do so much more with the place. It feels as if the current owners are just happy to let it fall to bits and extract what they can out of it.

Very nice decor, even in the dining area. Extremely friendly service. A tab seems the default, which is refreshing.

Beer was great. Food was big portions and excellent quality and taste. ??'?

Lovely cosy atmosphere. Unfortunately the fire wasn't going as were hoping but the quality $15 lunch made up for it. Yummo.

Amazing experience. The Chef had outdone themselves. The chips where not oily and pasta was just about right. The patrons added to the ambiance, the music was soothing, lighting was just about right. I will go back again. Loved it

Visited here for lunch on a recent trip to Armidale. The food was pretty good, it had a nice cosy atmosphere. Enjoyed it.

I do however have a rule I go by on Google maps reviews where everything gets 5 stars to begin with, but each negative thing that happens removes one star.

I've taken this down to 4 stars simply because when we arrived, the guy who greeted us, whilst he seemed friendly and welcoming, pointed to the NSW health QR code and said "oh you have to fill this bullsh*t in". I don't swear, I don't personally care for it. I spoke to my wife about this and despite it being the general Aussie culture, I didn't appreciate it as a customer.

Aside from that, I'd still go again if I'm back in town as it was a lovely place with good food.

Food was fantastic. When we visited early on a weeknight it was very quiet but as time went by more guests arrived. The fireplace makes the atmosphere especially cosy. Food was excellent. I had the burger which was made fresh, cooked perfectly and the sauces and salads were genuinely perfect. Staff were great.

Great pub this one a pity it's right in the cbd but after 150 years it's a bit late to change addresses . Great food and cold drinks, cheering.

Great service and food. Updated menu has more vegetarian options that are easy enough to make vegan. I had the spicy battered mushroom burger which was amazing.

Pub grub. Decent food with decent prices. I wouldnt rave about it. On a Saturday there were only 2 waiters who had to serve, clear, seat and handle the bar - needless to say almost all the patrons were frustrated with the wait times. Nachos very average. Beef pie was decent.

Prices are really good, food is higher quality than other Armidale pubs and you only get slightly less than other places. If you're looking for a slightly classier pub lunch go to the newie. Service is good too.

Great care taken to adhere to Covid safe protocols and such a warm welcome to a pub with a charming atmosphere. The grilled barramundi was delicious. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and thank you to the staff!!

Staff were very friendly but service was very slow, seemed mainly due to covid restrictions everything was table service. You couldn't go to the bar to order drinks So had to wait till staff came by or noticed you wanting to order . Meals were generous size and taste great. Had a good pub vibe.

First trip from Sydney to Armidale. Stopped in on Saturday for lunch and was so happy with both the Chicken Burger and the 'Newie' burger we decided to have dinner there on Saturday night. Saturday night was a standout. Started with the garlic prawns, salt and pepper squid and garlic bread, all amazing but the winner was the garlic prawns - absolutely delicious. For the mains we had the Filet Mignon and Barramundi. One thing I want to say is if you do nothing else in the New England region of NSW, you must try this Filet Mignon. Absolutely smashed me out of the park, I have ordered this dish across Australia and this is by far, over and above the best one I have had.All staff were friendly, happy to have a chat and were great at offering tips for the local area. One thing I also noticed is that they were smiling and actually looked like they wanted to be there which added to the overall vibe of the whole place.Coming from Sydney it's hard to find a place that doesn't shell out mass produced, mediocre-at-best, chain style pub food that gives you heartburn. Coming from a bloke that knows the inside of a pub pretty well, The New England Hotel is a breath of fresh air, so much so I felt compelled to leave this review.Want a pub feed that's reasonably priced, made with the customer in mind and served with a smile? Look no further than the Newie. We will definitely be back.

Very disappointed.I got there at 7.45 pm, the place was close to empty(10 guest max). I ordered take away for me and family. 1 veggie burger, 1 ratatouille, and side of chicken. With patience I waited ...and waited...and waited. 8.40pm I asked about the food and I got a "sorry the chicken is taking a bit longer"The rest of the "food" was questionable honestly: 3 slices of baked vaggies over polenta and oil they call it Ratatouille for 17 dollars. Mashed charcoal burned pumpkin inside a burger with soggy cold undercooked fries is their veggie burger...17 dollars.Chicken breast... after 50 minutes of cooking, I am pretty sure that chicken Is well done.10 dollars. 44 dollars and I couldn't feed my family...I had to buy food elsewhere. I do not recommend this place.
