Awesome pub well worth the visit, some great food and nice craft beers on tap.

Tastiest steak we've had in a restaurant in a long time. Juicy, tender, delicious flavour &
perfectly cooked to order for our group of 4 people, each ordering to their own personal taste.
Stand out was the friendly, warm & professional service. The bar & food staff are obviously well chosen & well supported because the service was top notch. Prices for food & drinks are low compared to other local pubs in Merewether & inHamilton.
Our only less favourable comment would be on the existence of media screens in the dining area which we all felt detract from the lovely ambience for dining. We enjoyed a main meal & 3 drinks each over dinner.

The Mary Ellen never disappoints!

We went for lunch with the kids and grandparents yesterday, and it was great.

There was plenty of room (lovely surrounds), you're not on top of everyone else, the staff are super friendly and were great with the kids.

The menu has a large variety, the meal portions are generous, and the food was amazing.

Always a great fail safe when you need a great meal.

If you haven't been to the Mary Ellen lately, it's time to schedule a visit. Bon Appetite!

Just had the nicest pub meal I have had for a long time!
Chicken Scallopini. Others at our table who ordered this dish said the same, and everyone else enjoyed their meals also. Service was great, meals came out in reasonable time. Staff were friendly.

A recent makeover has taken this pub to a whole new level. Incredible food, some great spaces to chill and live music on the weekend makes it a must visit venue in Newcastle

Best to book in advance. Plenty of seating especially for large groups of 10. Rump was delicious & cooked perfectly & so were the prawns in the creamy garlic cream. Prices were reasonable, staff friendly & didn't wait too long for out meals. Very happy & look forward to returning again soon

We come for dinner for a family birthday. All 5 meals were lovely, delicious and very filling. Not 1 bad meal! The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The new makeover made the place just beautiful to be in!

Had not been here since 2020 and found the renovation to be very nice. The staff were friendly and courteous, the dining area was very clean and the fish tacos were delicious ?

Food generally was really tasty but found the chicken schnitzel rather bland. The chicken had no real taste but I was moist.

Vegetarian pizza was great, base cooked really well. Burgers and chips were awesome.

Food came out surprisingly fast considering the place was almost full. Even more amazingly the staff took our plates when we were finished eating. I know that's hospitality 101 but that service is rare in restaurants these days in Newcastle.

Staff were friendly and polite and they looked like they enjoyed working there. A sign a great management!

Outstanding! Just down the road from our motel. All meals were excellent with friendly and efficient service. On holidays from Melbourne and after two disappointing evenings elsewhere this place made up for it. Probably won't be back in Newcastle anytime soon but would absolutely return here. Well done!

Excellent. The family and I (2 x adults, 2 x kids under 5 years old) stopped in for a Sunday lunch. Out visit wasn't pre-planned so we chose the Mary Ellen having visited years ago and remembering the venue fondly.
They accommodated us without a booking, the menu was extensive and everything we tried was delicious.
The last time we visited we found it to be a homely and inviting place, and the renovations have done the impossible task of bringing the venue into a modern setting whilst maintaining that feeling of warmth.
They also had a kids playroom which helped keep our kids preoccupied between their kids meals (free drink and ice cream with each kids meal).
We'll definitely be back and won't keep it so long between visits this time.
Highly recommended!

We went for Chicken Schnitzel Monday night! Not like they used to be! Famous Mary schnitzel cheese sauce was the size of a teaspoon with 3 shallots and the Schnitzel was dry as! The salad was bigger than the Schmitt! Soooo disappointed! You have lost me guys we won't be back so sad ??'?

Hubby and I came here on Friday night for dinner was a busy resturant so recommend booking. The service was impeccable we where greeted by a lovely older blonde lady who I must say was a stand out with her customer service all night she did not miss saying hello to anybody and just very friendly, I also must say all the staff where super friendly and semed like they where happy to be their. The food was delicious and quiet a few good GF options for the hubby which can be rare to find in a pub restaurant he was also very happy with the food. We will definitely return.

Newly renovated we popped in for an impromptu lunch and it was really excellent. The kitchen was flat out and we had to wait, but the staff were really attentive and friendly. The Reno is excellent and every detail has been thought of. There's plenty of seating with tables for large groups and couples. Lots of natural lighting with large windows. Is definitely worth a visit.

Great food, very good sized potions. Fast service and reasonable prices. It's always busy when we come here and has a great atmosphere.

I love the atmosphere here but the vegetarian options are lacking. When I first tried the vegetarian schnitzel I was disappointed, as it tasted like a loaf of vegetables. I went back a few months later and they had updated their menu, I tried the vegetarian schnitzel again and it was very different, much like a fake meat and was quite crispy and delicious. I went back a few weeks later and it was once again like the vegetarian loaf I tried many months back. Besides that I do enjoy the atmosphere and the staff are very lovely, especially the woman who works in the dining area who appears to be the manager!

Good meals and relatively cheap. Chicken snitty was huge and really nice. Steaks were cooked perfectly. Nice pub, friendly staff, good prices.

Incredibly rudeWanted beer and burger.Walked in ordered beer then went to bistro.Special was beer and burger $20.Manager was beside me so I said I wanted beer znd burger can I count this beer so far I had not had a sip.I was told noBuy another beer.I was driving so didn't want second beer.Manager was really rude and uncaring.As I was drinking manager walked by I told him not impressed he told me to drink up and leave.Totally unnecessary.No sighs around bar informing of food special.

Good service, good food. Toliets were a little small though. Close access to a bus which makes it really convenient. This is also a CV19 friendly restaurant
