Customer Review

Reception was most helpful and the rooms very clean and spacious, bed was firm but comfortable, shower was hot. Needed a last minute booking while our camper was repaired and we are traveling with dogs. (Some rooms or quiet dogs can sleep in the car as ours usually do when on the road in cooler weather) Lovely old Rose Gardens to walk around and a view of the winery out the back (some rooms)

The Lyndoch Motel has a new lease of life with clean, freshly renovated rooms decorated in a snazzy retro style. New carpet and furnishings contribute to a sense of fresh, light and bright and the well equipped rooms make for a comfortable stay. The recently refurbished swimming pool invites either a swim or just relaxing in the peaceful garden surrounds. The peace and tranquility of the old Lyndoch Hill is still there and it is so good to see this recently neglected gem being restored to its former glory. We loved our 2 night stay.

Wonderful surprise staying at Lyndoch Hill Motel! The property is charming and newly renovated, with spacious and well-equipped rooms. The common areas are clean and well-maintained, and while the pool was a bit chilly, it was very enjoyable. The staff is welcoming and friendly. Highly recommended!

We loved our stay among the rose gardens and vines. Very relaxing and extremely peaceful. Just a short distance to Lyndoch, which had a great vibe and all amenities. Close to Tanunda and surrounding cellar doors and distilleries on the Barossa Valley. The management and staff were amazing people, very welcoming, friendly and helpful. On-site Italian restaurant was excellent ??'?

Lyndoch Hill Hotel has seen a fantastic improvement under the lovely new owners. The recently renovated rooms are a huge upgrade, with everything you need for a comfortable stay. We especially appreciated the flexibility with a late check-in and check-out, which made our visit even more convenient. The only downside was the pillows - I'd recommend bringing your own for better comfort. Also, the beds are a bit on the smaller side, as my husband found them too short for his height. Overall, though, it's a great place to stay and definitely recommend!

The location is perfect for exploring the Barossa and the setting was beautiful amongst the gardens. Our room, 7, was recently renovated and as we had incredibly good weather we were able to enjoy sitting outside on the little balcony overlooking the rotunda listening to the many birds.
The room itself had everything you would need to cater for small meals , we loved the retro style of the fridge and the tissue holder! Wine glasses, cutlery and plates .I did take my own oven glove and a Chux. A breakfast box was provided containing 2small egg and bacon pies, raisin toast, butter, small milk and 2 oranges. The restaurant is only open for dinner on a Friday and Saturday but , we were told , the owners were hoping the couple running the restaurant would cook breakfast as well. That would be better.
The pool looked great but it wasn't quite warm enough to have a dip. In summer it would be fantastic! Lots of space to sit around it. Safe for children.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wish Bridget and her team every success for the future.

Hey the place is in need of an upgrade, but the reverse cycle heater worked, the bedding clean and comfortable and I for one loved the size of the bathroom and the retro tiling.
Value for money and next to enough sights to fill the day.

I really don't like writing negative reviews, however I feel it necessary here.

The run down, badly maintained rooms and buildings are not reflective of what is advertised ( ie chateau, restaurant etc). The restaurant was shut. Poor service in the coffee shop.

Staff were friendly, but not recommended

Well I've read some of the reviews and yes the motel is in need for a bit of tender love and care but honestly from the minute we arrived and before as we had to call ahead as we were running way behind the reception was just magnificent.
Our room was very spacious, bedding all beautiful matching in white, we were informed before hand that the restaurant was closed but we also were sent an email if all the little restaurants in the area.
We were offered a lovely bottle of wine and a cheese platter, as we as our fridge being stocked with 3 X different types of bread, 1x lite of orange juice,6x assorted yoghurts, 6x Mimi cartons of milk and 6x packets of cereal, and the usual tea, coffee sachets.
Yes the garden needs a good trim and hopefully we will return to see it a glamed up again at it full glory.
Would we stay here again yes in a heartbeat.

What an absolute shame that what could be a great destination stay is so very run down and tired. The photos in the ads must be very old because they don't show the peeling paint, rotten timbers, closed restaurant and cellar door. Even the receptionists were less than enthusiastic and had very little local knowledge. The rooms are very dated, timber at the base of the wardrobe rotted and the tiles in the shower could do with a very good scrub to get rid of the black mould. So sad as the gardens, with just a tiny bit of TLC would be fabulous and the birdlike here is wonderful. Some one with a bit of forethought and a few $ could turn this into a really great experience

An amazing spot to stop and rest whilst traveling through the storybook sights and smells of the beyond beautiful Barossa Valley. Annabel & Cassie at reception went above and beyond for me researching local activities, tips for best shopping and overall pleasant & lovely to converse with. True South Australia hospitality. Also, there is a free dvd collection in the lobby to watch movies in your room. The property itself is exquisitely kept and the guests I've met here are extremely friendly as well. I'll for certain return here and recommend it to anyone on the fence. Also a great rate for the natural light in room #4. Cheers.

There 1 week ago. Place needs a revamp.. Reminded us of the seventies. Didn't use the shower after the first day. Poor water flow and cold water tap hard to adjust. Restaurant not open. Had vouchers, but nothing open. Floor was creaky. Bed was average. Could only watch a few channels on the TV, out dated model. Brochure that was sent to us after booking through Sunseeker Holidays didn't paint the real picture.

So much potential, but it seems that the owners have just given up.

Check in time is advertised as being later in the evening, but we were lucky to catch them at 4pm.
We had 2 rooms but didn't get rooms that were connecting.
The place is drab. Needs a paint.
Bathrooms have a water temp of lava or ice.
Old TVs that don't pick up HD channels, only SD.
A door that bangs in the wind and you need to wedge something in it.
The gardens are in a state of disrepair. As a gardner this was very disappointing.
Paid 128 a night for each room, cheap, ut still think it is too much.

The photos online did not match what we received. We paid for a garden view room for $200, we received a room with a window looking at weeds and a shed. Very disappointing. The bathroom was cold and old, no privacy as there was no shower curtain or door on the toilet. We were given the room on the corner and were unable to park our car as the allotted park for our room was boxed in by the neighbouring room's cars (even though they parked correctly). If this room were advertised at $120 a night then I wouldn't be upset because we would be paying for what we received but unfortunately the room was $200 and not worth our money. The lady at reception was lovely and the beds were comfortable and clean, which I guess is all you can ask for...but not for $200 a night.

We were booked into Merlot House. Arrived to find a dated shabby unkempt building. Inside was cold sparsely furnished and uninviting. The fridge was dirty inside and out. The oven needed a clean. The outdoor dining area needed a sweep. There were still scraps of rubbish on the table from previous guests. Also on the table was a can with cigarette butts in it. The grass was very long. The front door panelling was broken and the front door step had clearly not been swept for a long time. 6 light bulbs didn't work. We couldn't bear to stay even one night (booked for 4) so got back in the car and luckily found somewhere cleaner and nicer. Returned the key 10am next morning to an equally shabby and dirty unmanned Reception office. The whole complex looks aged and scruffy. Clearly the website photos were taken jen long ago and the profile photo shows nearby Barossa Chateau which is not where motel guests or Merlot House guests would be staying!

Amazing hosts Mandy and Mark, they could teach others in the industry a thing or two about gracious hosting. The food at happy hour tapas was lovely and affordable. Rose Gardens in the spring would be spectacular, but still lovely at this time of year. Devonshire tea at the chateau made me feel I had " Escaped to the Chateau " Rooms were comfortable and clean, plenty of hot water with good pressure. Balconies need a bit of work but we're adequate. I will return.

Rooms were basic but had everything we needed, and if they didn't we only had to ask. We were looking for affordable but comfortable accommodation to explore the Barossa and that's what we had, although the beds were a bit to be desired in our case. We didn't use the pool but it looked clean and maintained. Trust The Chef was a delightful treat. Breakfast was simple but tasty. We had room service one night as well which was enjoyable. Everyone was friendly and helped us enjoy our stay. Yeah sure, things could do with some revamping and the pictures on the website are of the nicest rooms only, but if you want better you had better be prepared to pay, and in the Barossa you certainly will. To some of these reviewers I have to say: Have some wine and cheese on the little balcony and watch the birds, maybe you'll get over yourself?

The room was rather old looking but good enough and quite spacious. The bed was comfortable so that was good. However as the room only had blinds and shutters and no proper blackout curtains it was rather bright at 5+ am already and my baby woke up super early both mornings we stayed there and didn't sleep well the whole weekend as a result. The showers were okay too but also the tissues we're finishing and so were the soaps and they didn't give an extra one - they apparently don't even do housekeeping over the weekend and only twice a week (seriously?) So they didn't make up our room too. Was a bit disappointed on that front, but I guess it is what it is.

Three stars is a bit generous but there's a bit to like about the place - very good (fair) rates, incredible Rose garden (the clear highlight), solid breakfast. But the rooms need serious TLC. Our TV was barely operational, the aircon noisy. Insects are a big issue. Not what I was expecting, but also pleasantly surprised by the beautiful garden. Walking distance to Lyndoch. Staff seemed quite nice.

The rooms were clean and tidy. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Food was very good. The grounds could be amazing but need a little work at present. Understandable in the current climate of labour shortages. They are doing their best.

It is an inexpensive place to stay. The rooms are basic but clean and functional. The water is hot and the water pressure is excellent (very important for me) The food in the restaurant was delicious and there is a well stocked gift shop, tearoom and winery. Their scones are amazing. Well worth a visit especially to enjoy the beautiful rose gardens.

Upon Arrival we opened the room and straight away we had a big whiff of cigarette smoke and the room looked nothing like the pictures on the website. The floors were wooden and looked like there was carpet there that had been ripped up. There was an old couch that didn't look clean. How on earth can this be rated four stars with NO MICROWAVE ? I opened the fridge to put our water in and found hair and bits of sticky jam and I had to clean the fridge myself. Don't use the glasses and coffee mugs because they were all filthy with marks on them. Obviously they were only rinsed out with water and then put back in the old cupboard. Then we opened the bathroom and it was filthy and dirty and there were marks on the toilet seat. We didn't even shower and we felt dirty even washing our hands with god knows what disinfectant soap they leave in the bottle by the sink. The bedding had dirty marks all over it. We were really considering leaving our one night stay but paying nearly two hundred for a so-called four star hotel is not worth it. We feel let down and ripped off. The pool is green and unfit to swim in this is a health and safety concern considering they are selling a product at four stars. This place needs to be closed down and fixed. The gardens were really nice and pitching a tent would have been a better experience. There needs to be an inspection for everything to be fixed. Avoid at all costs and go elsewhere.

Room gave a classic '80s retro experience. Breakfast was basic "Continental" style. Dinner was great, and the all-round service was really good. A bit of money chucked at the building wouldn't go astray though. I'll be back again.

Nice place, off main road. Room was basic, but clean and tidy. Bed very comfy. Nice garden view. Yellow roses outside the door, lovely fragrance. Shower was hot, and good water pressure. TV did not work during my stay, but more time to walk around the gardens and sight-see. Meals in Restaurant were delicious, and breakfast was really good, plenty of choices there. Did not go to Chateau for the tour, missed that as went to Pipe Organ Recital in Tanunda, which was well worth the visit. Went later on to Chateau but staff there rude and snobby. Did not have devonshire tea as per vouchers, but spent extra money in the Restaurant on drinks and cocktails. Well worth it. 😊

Firstly the good. Staff were lovely (mostly) and the location was great for our winery tour weekend.

Unfortunately that's it for the good. Don't be fooled by the photos on the booking sites. This place is a 1960's motel that hasn't seen any work done on it since it was built. Your average motor-inn on the highway is nicer. Our "Deluxe Queen Rose Garden View" room was ordinary to give it it's best possible rating. Not sure what the Deluxe Queen thing is all about but it was most certainly not deluxe and the bed was a double not a queen. The rose garden was there but you needed a tetanus shot before venturing on to the wooden balcony with nails sticking out, to smell the roses.

The bathroom was so old and ill ventilated that we needed to use every peice of bath linen provided to soak up water from the floor less we became victims of the slip hazard tiles. That's when we discovered the towels coming back off the floor black. Which was a problem because despite costing the same as a city hotel per night, your room only gets serviced if you're staying more than 3 days (and woe betide anyone who queries this with the manager without having read the welcome letter first!)

The continental breakfast was as advertised although there was no fruit and the selection was not inspiring. The restaurant was barely open in the evening and only offered a limited tapas menu during our stay. Despite being serviced by the worst water system in the country, there is no bottled water available so be sure to bring your own.

Lastly, the walls are thin. Really thin. I'm glad George and Rose in room 19 had a 'satisfying' weekend but I didn't need to hear it. ALL OF IT!

Tourism needs to get this lovely old 1960/70s motel back to her beautiful self. The rose 🌹 and other gardens are beaut but the facade is in need of TLC. Staff are welcoming and the food fab. I hope to return again to a revitalised motel. Keep up the good work management. ??'?

Bed was comfortable and the room was clean except for some used dental floss in the bathroom. The shower had great water pressure. The balcony was run down with the gardens in need of water and major TLC. To sum it up...an affordable blast from the past, somewhere to sleep while you explore the Barossa.
