Such a beautifully restored hotel, with old world charm and graces. The common room is very well appointed and furnished very tastefully. The younger gentleman who served me was so very helpful and polite. Unfortunately, due to the hall light shining through the transom window in room #1, I got very little sleep and now know why it's the last room to be let. It's an easy fix with some blockout contact. It's just a shame that the cleaning staff don't pay attention to the things above eye level.

Basic country pub, dirty toilet facilities, food too expensive for what it was. The roast didn't taste fresh made that day, the brisket didn't taste slow cooked, it was not soft and falling to pieces but was eatable , chicken and prawns well cooked, lamb steak well cooked, mash potato was lumpy, dining facilities very basic, green beans cooked perfectly . Good service.

Great prices!!! Lunch special $14. Had bangers and mash. Huge parmigiana best ever had anywhere. Friendly staff. Worth the drive up from Thirroul.

Drove from Canberra to the hotel after being told there were vacancies for the night, last minute. Arrived and was told the receptionist read the wrong date and there were no vacancies. Sam the manager tried assisting us in finding other accommodation and also offered free dinner for the troubles.

We are happy we bumped into Sam.

The rooms although compact are clean and are perfectly adequate for one person. They do have a shared bathroom and the facilities are clean also there is a shared kitchen with a refrigerator,microwave and kettle.

Was here today with my client for lunch as the tradies bistro was closed due to covid. Wow the bistro here was amazing and for $13.00 for the best steak and fish and chips ever was outstanding value. Tom and josh were so great to us as there service was amazing and had plenty of time for a chat. This is going to be a place for lunch from time to time as it's just to good to miss. Give it ago and you too will love it as much as we did.

Too Noisy and worst..
Never book hotel accommodation. No wifi, no heating system. Barroom not attached to room. very cold during winter. Too much noise from their pub that my kids couldn't sleep whole night. Will never visit and will never recommend.

Stayed here overnight. Well maintained, clean, fantastic staff, can't recommend highly enough. Helensburgh is a great little town.

Have never had a bad experience at this pub/hotel, really good place to stop get a drink and relax, the food here is amazing as well and very big portions!

Nice people, but beef brisket was mostly white (?!) and tasted chewy and rotten (left), burger tasted "offaly" (left) and "caramelised "onion on the salad was actually raw red onion.
Girl serving was lovely, though.

The Steak l had was so over priced for what you got. $40 = 1 ordinary medium steak cooked, just ok. Lump of mash potato, carrot sliced up and a small piece of broccoli. Mushroom gravy! I couldn't tell if it even was mushroom (no taste).
The place itself was nicely renovated and the guy behind the bar was super helpfull.
Won't be racing back there for a while. But if l do, it's the Red Nectar for me.

John and the young man at the bar were super friendly. I ordered the lemon grilled chicken which was extremely dry. John asked how my food was and after hearing my opinion, took it back to the kitchen and made sure I was given another serving (not dry). I feel John went above and beyond to make our experience there pleasant! John works hard, greets everyone with a smile and is courteous.

We enjoyed a lovely overnight stay. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and the newly renovated upstairs accommodation was excellent. Shared bathrooms were very clean and lovingly renovated in a heritage style.

I'm in two minds about this place.

One of the most beautiful little hotels I've ever been in. Vintage money aesthetic, its absolutely wonderful. Beds were comfy and the pub downstairs wasn't loud enough to be an issue. I hope I can visit again :)

Staff extremely friendly, nice meal, rooms basic and very clean. No air con for summer, had a fan but couldn't really feel it. Shared bathroom. Overall, happy to recommend

My review is not aimed at criticising but to help improve this lovely pub. 11 of us was there on a Tuesday night celebrating my grandchild's 10th birthday with family. 3 of us ordered the slow cooked brisket which was tough to eat with a knife and fork, gravy was nice. 1 ordered the pork belly which was dry. 1 ordered the ribs which were lovely and fell off the bone. The kids ordered schnitzel which was great. At 7.30 we asked the kitchen for small plates so we could serve the birthday cake we brought and was told to use serviettes. Disappointing first experperience at the pub. We won't go back

Great classic heritage hotel. Went there today for a pub lunch. Really, really quick service, and generous chicken schnitzel or steak.. very friendly staff, nice warm open fire on a cold day.

Great little Hotel. The showers and toilets are outside your room, they are super clean and nice. Never saw anybody there even though it was booked out. Even though the Bar is right below the rooms, it closes on time, no noise.
The staff is super friendly, helpful and easy going. There is food, TV, super comfy beds with heating blankets if needed and a common room in a nice victorian pub atmosphere.
Somebody did their very best to make it a good place and serve extremely good food for unbelievably fair prices. Shout out to the kitchen legends.
Free parking, coffee across the street.
Grateful I could hide there while Sydney was impossible to pass due to flooding.

We love this place!!! 4 of us stayed for the weekend and we will definitely be coming back! All of us have had horrendous previous experiences with 'above pub share bathroom' cheap accommodation, so naturally we were super skeptical and worried. But all that disappeared the moment we went upstairs.

The beautiful heritage building is preserved and decorated tastefully with little corners of china cabinets, chairs and the most amazing giant mirror in the hallway. I was unsure of a common room (as they're usually pretty seedy), but it had such a clean, neat setup with tea/coffee station and a nice new large fridge and nice old cabinets. We enjoyed one evening on the comfy couches winding down with some drinks and enjoying the view of the town.

The bathrooms were so lovely! Modern tiles, fixtures and fancy sliding glass doors, a large shower with rainwater shower heads (which personally I don't enjoy as I like more pressure) and impeccably CLEAN. I was happily surprised to find the free products were actual large bottles of Treseme` shampoo/conditioner and Sukin body wash.

The rooms were really nice, the faux fireplace is a clever touch and the running theme of dark wood antique furniture made it feel cosy. The bed was really comfortable! I like to have heavy blankets on top so I thought I would be cold but I was actually insanely warm - must be some great quality bedding there! I was reserved about the cleanliness of the decorative cushions and throw blanket. We had a wedding weekend so it was nice to come back each night to a nice bed!

We had dinner downstairs the first night. The menu was really nice and had some refreshing options so it was hard to pick! My boyfriends chicken schnitzel was HUGE I'm amazed he finished it. My steak was perfectly cooked and really tender and everyone else's meals looked really nice. My only critique was I felt the amount of vegetables on my plate was a bit stingy considering the price, I would have liked more. Also the size of the side sauces/gravy was super stingy and we were all a bit annoyed by that. Don't skimp on the sauce, sauce is very important!!!

The staff were great, happy, friendly, helpful - the boys made friends with some of them due to common hobbies, and the manager was genuinely interested to find out what we thought of our stay. It was obvious we weren't local but we weren't made to feel like outsiders. The general vibe of the pub was great. The small town we grew up in has horrible pubs we avoid due to bad vibes, lack of effort put into their food and hospitality, 'judginess' and general crappiness - so it was a good feeling to walk into the pub on a Sunday night in our full formal wedding attire and have everyone happily cheer, applaud and tell us how great we looked.

The town itself is great, we had a really nice Thai dinner, and found our favorite cafe for breakfast and coffee's.

Will definitely come back and stay. Best weekend!

The $12 lunch specials are absolutely awesome!!!! Mega Schnitzel, chips , salad and if you get there in happy hour scooeys ate 4 bucks!!! I wish I had a pic of the food !!!
