Another pleasing Pub Feed

Great Western Hotel, great vibe from the moment I walked in.

Chicken Parmi With salad, was not disappointed. Interesting twist on the Salad, not the usual "Parma pub salad" which was nice for a change.

Meal decent portion for the price ($29) and tasted great, could tell quality ingredients were used, cheese was fresh and Chicken done right.

My wife and I stayed at Shannon Motel overnight and chanced upon this hotel next door. A daily special was roast pork! WOW! A proper old fashioned roast, excellently cooked potatoes, pumpkin, carrots. Huge serve of peas. Finely sliced meat and delicious gravy. My wife was very leased with her Bruschetta. The Sticky Date Pudding was excellently presented and suitably rich. Cream, strawberries, blueberries and raspberry accompanied it. An excellent feed.

We recently attended a function at the hotel and the venue was able to cater to our group with generous sized rooms of various sizes. We found a space which accommodated us perfectly and the service was fantastic.

Hard to choose what to order from an interesting menu because everything looked so good, but no complaints about quality or serving size from the whole table.

Can't wait to go back.

I went to the Western for a meal and it was awesome, I had the grazing platter which was a special and wow it did not disappoint. After my meal I decided to go to their bottleshop and get a bottle of wine, the staff, especially the bloke named Ben, was extremely knowledgeable about wine, he helped me chose an amazing bottle of Pinot Noir. Great service all round.

My family and I stayed in Newtown for 1 night and went to the pub for dinner and were extremely impressed. The staff were super friendly, attentive and helpful. The meals were delicious, a good size and came out very quickly. The menu also had lots of variety on it.

My partner and I went to this hotel on 30/10/2023 for lunch and had the worse meal we've every had. My Asian sticky fried chicken was dry and shriveled up and my partner's Ravioli was so bland it had no taste. We thought dessert couldn't be that bad but the golden syrup dumplings were also dried and undercooked tasting more like dry scones and the syrup that came with it was of the consistency of water. We are never going back to this hotel again.

Had lunch at the Western Tuesday 17th October and it was very good. My brother and I had steak sandwiches which were terrific. Lovely piece of steak an egg slices of bacon chips and salad all for $18. To make everything better $6 schooners went down a treat.

For a family-friendly pub, it's pretty good at delivering. There's some distractions for the kids & a nice hub-bub of chatter in the background. The food was certainly worth a visit. Staff are efficient & helpful. Bug serves so I opted fir two entrées. Seared scallops were delicious as was the arancini.

Great spot for a beer, nice staff, Chap behind bar singing away :)

Wide menu, comparable prices, friendly and prompt service. We will be back.

Meals where great the staff where great service was great the atmosphere good, what more do you want.

Pleasantly surprised with food and service. Haven't been for a while nut the menu choice and servings were excellent. Highly recommend

The only disappointment was the garlic bread. It was purchased across the road at Woolies. Word to the wise, don't order garlic bread

My husband, our friends and I dined at this hotel on a sunday lunch. My husband had Nasi Goreng it was full of cabbage with 3 prawns only, my meal of pork ribs was shocking, boiled meat coated with a sauce and our friends had fish and chips which were greasy overcooked and the chips were black and dry. I am not sure where your chef was trained but he needs to be retrained. We would never eat in this establishment again.

Had lunch on Sunday, we ordered the fish with chips and salad, what a terrible meal, never seen or tasted chips like that. We both felt sick through the night. Sorry, but never again. Felt embarrassed as we took friends from Melbourne and their meal was terrible too

Wow ,if ya haven't eaten here your missing out .The food was excellent and the service was even better

Had a great meal for a family lunch, scotch fillet was a little undercooked (asked for medium rare) lovely and juicy, great gravy, chicken parmas were also great, only downside was the salad, 90 percent lettuce and a handful of hard green peas, and sparing red onion. Not the greatest, meals came out quick and bar service was great. Will be back next time I'm in Geelong.

The chicken was rubbery and not much salad or gravy was hoping it would be good as its the only pub take away I have been able to find

My disabled client,who had not been out for a meal,in a long time,and myself recently experienced a very pleasant lunch time at this hotel.All of the staff were Helpful,Courteous,and Kind. A big Thank you,to the chef,who made a special effort,over my client's request for an oyster dish.Spacious,comfortable seating,we were treated with respect and felt valued. Beautiful presentation of the meals,which were delicious,and a generous size.So Good to know my client Truly enjoyed his dining experience which he had long anticipated.

The worst meal at any pub in over ten years! The order took 70 minutes to arrive. We sat and waited while other orders arrived within 10 minutes. Chicken schnitzel was cooked on one side and raw on the other. Fish cooked same way. Really disappointed as food in the past at this hotel was excellent, but not any more. Will not go to the Great Western in Newtown again.

After receiving an over-cooked Tbone steak, the staff couldn't be more accommodating in providing a replacement and then attempting to look after me with dessert or a drink, although we were too quick to already order and pay, based on how the situation was handled I left very pleased. most food and service great, and thank you to the team on the floor Sunday evening 22.5.

We dine there often, cannot fault the meals nor the service, staff there are amazing, highly recommend

Delicious food, friendly staff, great atmosphere. Highly recommend this pub.

Generous food portions, turnaround time is quick for a busy place. Our roast vegetables were perfection, in comparison to other places where they blanch them for 2 seconds and remain as hard as a rock. Props to you for delivering tasty meals!!

Visited hotel on NYE for evening meal. Good food selection & reasonably priced. We ordered the steak & a lamb shanks with vegetables which were both perfectly cooked to our liking. The steak was very tasty and the lamb delicious, just falling of the bone. Staff polite & efficient. Highly recommend. Will definitely return for another meal.

This is my local pub and it is walking distance from my home and I go there often to have their steak!!! I love it. Always perfect and cooked to perfection with beautiful chips that I just cant get enough of too!Such friendly staff too and lovely surroundings. Much nicer than most pubs and the function room is great for private parties too! Its called the Western Room and we had my brothers engagement party in that room and my Aunts wake. Its a lovely intimate setting for a private party of up to 40 people. We love the Western Room and will book it for another private function real soon.
