Great Aussie pub in outback Queensland.
Good menu choices, friendly locals and staff. Located on the dinosaur trail. Great base for exploring the area which is vast.

Had dinner 🍽 there. Food was good but they served my two friends 10 minutes before they served me. All of the servings for a group should be brought at the same time.

We came here for a good old fashioned pub lunch but unfortunately we did not find good old country pub hospitality here.
What we got was a 45-minute wait, miserable looking front of house staff, and my young children were subjected to some of the worst language and aggressive sounding behaviour from the kitchen staff out the back, I have heard. It was awful to listen to, and it didn't appear like anyone was able or prepared to stop the behaviour.
We arrived after 1pm and ordered a steak burger and calamari. The burger came with BBQ sauce when we asked for tomato, but there was no way I was going to raise the issue with the way I had heard the cook receive other feedback.
The calamari was delicious, but at $16 for 5 rings, it wasn't that great.
Overall, it was a pretty woeful experience. Hopefully, we just got them on a bad day... but something tells me these issues aren't new.

Kota at the bar was so rude to me and my boyfriend and made us so uncomfortable. They didn't even make the order correctly, and the food was terrible except the grilled chicken which was good. Such a disappointing experience being treated like this. Manager was completely unconcerned. Highly recommend taking your business elsewhere. Same people own that own this place also own the Royal Hotel. Shame on u guys.

Rob (the venue manager) has a nak for losing return, out of town customers. After boozing up a truckie customer on a mandatory 24hr stop, his staff didn't call last drinks, and when said truckie asked for take aways, rod ...eric claims it's the customers' responsibility to know what the time is.

Every other pub in Australia makes the call ... but not rodb. GO ROBD ... YOUR THE MAN IN HUW...AND..DEN...

Called in to buy 3 meals for lunch and drinks. I asked if my whippet could sit on the verandah but was told sorry only tied up outside in the sun. We left and bought 3 meals at the Holden Cafe which was great. I've taken my dog into over 200 pubs around Australia, matzos brewery in Broome for dinner, a five star resYair at on the river in Perth to be refused in a tiny town who's struggling for business. Most places say yes and provide a bowl of iced water for our dog.

Pretty good food, and really lovely staff.

Good pub with a nice covered verandah to dine on. Meals are a little expensive for a pub & there weren't many gluten free options except steak or grilled fish. Pizza menu said gf base option, but this is no longer available. Staff are helpful & friendly.

Stopped for a cold drink and that's what we got. icy cold . toilets unaccessible by wheelchair but bigger and better ones across the street. very run down but still had the charm of old country pub. service was less than average

Last night I was fortunate to dine at this, most unassuming restaurant in outback Queensland. This hotel in Hughenden served me a scotch fillet steak that I would pay a fortune for on the coast. Perfectly cooked and tender and tasty to match. Thank you the Great Western for an unforgettable meal! Oh, and the beer was cold and thirst quenching and not just for dessert!

Had lunch there. Big chicken snitzel very nice. Also had caeser salad very nice.

Wouldn't hurt for the bar staff to be friendly and gain some customer service skills. Didn't realise it was such an inconvenience for her to take our meal orders.

Popped in for a lunch and these meals were horrendous. Would never return and would not recommend.

The Western Nachos are just Doritos, a splash of salsa, cheese and sour cream.

The grilled chicken burger was covered in extra bbq sauce to mask the burnt chicken. It didn't work.

We had better dinner meals at the Royal.

Nice room for our family to stay overnight.

We stayed at one of the rooms and it was great. Spacious and clean. Food is a bit pricy for what it is.

O/N stay in self contained clean and comfortable room next to pub. Very friendly staff, food was good for me, not so accommodating for vegetarian partner. Nice little town for a walk around. Would stay again.

We were only there for 1 drink ,bar service great ,open air deck,clean ,and a fabulous long bar ,back tomoz for a meal.

Had a meal at this great hotel for lunch.

Great service by a lovely Irish lady Edel she made us feel so welcome and the food was great too good value. Nice cold beers too.

We only had a meal with a drink. I think it was not value for money with the chips and fish could be better presentation. Charge like this I feel that the food would be better as the oil was tasted old. I realized food prices have gone up but a little imagination on how to make it more colorful.

All round good place. Some new rooms and comfy bed, with good service. Off the main thoroughfares and reasonably quiet. Off set from main pub/bar. Food was classic bar food and well priced. No dramas, would stop in again.

Horrible food in rundown surroundings. Ate there twice and just got worse

Never been abused the way the male staff here did. I have been to Goa beach in India and felt more safe than the evening I went here.

Better off walking to hungry jacks than eating here. Road kill would be a safer option after seeing the cook in the kitchen.

A pretty typical outback pub. Very quiet when we were there and so not much atmosphere.

Rooms were tidy and recently refurbished. Pub was good, food nice and staff friendly. Staffing issues, like a lot of the area, means things are a bit slower, but wasn't too bad.

The rooms have undergone renovations, so gone are the wall rattlers they now have very nice split systems. The room itself was really neat, clean and a good size.The restaurant/bar food was also great, the staff were pleasant. The seating afforded a good view of the main street, it would be a great spot to people watch during the busier months.

$10 for a can of coke.$ 30 for a plate of pasta. Ate you seriousI was in shock when the bar attendant.Said a can of coke was $10. Is cheaper to buy beer than a soft drink.My suggestion, go around the back to drive through will save a fortune

A country pub in a country town.Excellent food and friendly bar staff.It is located opposite the Digger entertainment centre.Accommodation outback and cold beers in the front.The rooms have recently be renovated.

Great meals, kids meal came out first. Chicken parmy & schnitzel were slightly overcooked but t-bone was cooked perfectly. Friendly staff

Better than ratpack food, but not by much...Ordered 4 meals:1 x Sirloin Medium Rare with chips with 2 sauces1 x Rib Fillet Medium Rare with chips and Veg with Garlic Prawn with mushroom sauce1 x Battered Fish with onion rings and chips and tartar sauce.1 x Rump Medium Well with chips and Diane sauce on side, no seasoning.What we got:1 x Sirloin Well Done with chips with 2 sauces (Dad enjoyed the sauce)1 x Rib Fillet Well Done with some chips and no veggies (didn't order the salad)1 x Battered Fish and chips and tartar sauce.1 x Rump Well Done with chips. Diane sauce all over the steak and seasoning galore.4 Salads that we didn't want.If you want a steak that is anything less than Well Done, don't bother. If you have any specific requirements, don't bother. If you want to pay $115 for 4 meals that were less than average, don't bother.Look in some aspects parts of the meals were ok, but for the most part, very below average.
