We have dined here many times and always been good but took our daughter for dinner Saturday night and was very disappointed. She ordered chicken schnitzel with bacon, avocado and cheese topper and gravy on side, no avocado at all and no gravy and the pizza, well have had better from the freezer at Woollies. The chips served with meals looked and tasted like they were 2 days old. Not sure if we will be back.

John was an absolute gentleman. Showing us to a more intimate area of the pub. Fantastic service, super friendly. Great food as well.

Good Food, Great Views, Lovely Friendly and Helpful Staff. Had Mums 80th Birthday Lunch here and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Everyone enjoyed their meals and had a good time in the relaxed atmosphere. Thanks again!

Called in with some friends on Tuesday for a light meal and coffee. The dining area was very busy with a private function happening in addition to casual diners. Ordering took some time as only the one girl was taking orders, delivering meals and clearing up. And there is the strength of the bistro at the GW. The young lady has been there on previous occasions we have stopped in and she is always so cheerful, efficient and hard working. We were amazed at the pace with which she moved to assure everyone received meals in a timely manner, tables were cleared of finished dishes, and took the time to confirm she had remembered orders accurately if necessary. She is an absolute delight in a business which so often seems to have employees who seem overworked, exhausted and wishing they were elsewhere. I only wish I had thought to ask her name so I could mention it here.

Bit dissapointed on our recent visit 12.30 lunch time Sunday .It was definately not as busy as usual Sunday there were a few empty tables .
If you order on the specials menu you expect to run out of meals but
I definately had expected the regular menu items to be available however 30 mins after our table of 6 had ordered we were advised by waiter that only 2 lamb cutlet meals would be available not the 3 lamb cutlet meals meals as ordered .
This was fine as I was happy to change my order, however another 30mins later a different waitress came to the table advising that only 1 Lamb cutlet meal would now be available ,no refund offered for the difference in price and the waitress sarcastically apologized .
To add insult to injury we then had to request the $5 refund of the difference in cost when the meals arrived to which the waitressed appeared annoyed.

The Chilli prawns were great, and the boss loved her garlic prawns. Her comment was the best she has had in years
Well worth, the 1059 kilometre road trip up here. I'd recommend anyone who is in the area to have a meal here.

Has been very nicely refurbished and the general interior has a nice beachy feel. The staff and service were very good and friendly. However, the food was very expensive for what it was. I ordered the salt and pepper squid and added the salad and chips which cost extra and came to $31. The salt and pepper squid was very bland and really did not taste nice. The salad was tiny and the chip portion was very small for the price. I really didn't enjoy the meal, but I can't fault the staff they were very friendly and the service was good and attentive. Please consider improving the food if you're planning to charge this much for that.

I ate here with 7 adults and a child on a Sunday evening, having booked 24 hours prior. The venue was chosen on the basis that there were sufficient vegetarian options on the menu. When booking I informed the venue that my party was half vegetarian. I booked there for 6pm, half hour after the beginning of service.

The venue has a great view of the harbour but the dining room not particularly clean, with leftover dirty cutlery on the floor. The venue was spacious and had not long been refurbished. It had a children's toy room, appropriate for toddlers and had high chairs.

The drinks were cheap enough. $36 for a Squires ginger beer, an OJ, two white wines and a kids size OJ. Bar staff was friendly and helpful enough to find a plastic cup for the toddler.

We ordered shortly after arriving. Order at the counter, food delivered to the table. Many items on the menu just weren't available including the vegetarian lasagne, which was disappointing given only two or three other options exist ex-starter bread. Food was slow, with less than 20 patrons already seated.

There were mixed emotions about the quality of the meals. The salt and pepper squid shown was $19 for the starter size meal. It can be upgraded to a main size meal for $28 that includes chips and salad however no extra squid.

I had the Hand crafted Panko Crumbed Chicken with a Trump topper which came out at $35. The sauce tasted like generic branded BBQ sauce and I have yet to see the promised onion rings. There was not $35 of value on that plate, with the general commentary across the table is that there was far too much potato going around.

The Roast Pumpkin salad was well dressed, but for $21, left us thinking more could've been done.

The Kids size Bolognese looked like it was prepared on Friday and was supposed to come with ice-cream. Someone else must have eaten that ice cream. The serving size of the Bolognese was good, but again, at $13, not cheap to feed a toddler.

I think anyone that eats there for the foreseeable future will be paying high prices for that refurb.

At the George given the place a make over since here last time. Pleasant dinning room new bright blue and white...yep has stepped up. Good value

Service from waitress at the bar was great. Service from waitresses at kitchen was terrible. Food awful. Garlic bread dry and nasty, no garlic flavour. My pasta with prawn and mussels basically tasted like
a can of Heinz tomato sauce had been tipped in. Shockers

Sadly the food was very ordinary and beer was flat. There was a massive party happening at the time so perhaps the kitchen was under the pump, but when you pay $30 for fish and chips you expect a standard of quality. Tasteless fish and undercooked chips went hand in hand with a salad swimming in 3cm of balsamic. Dirty glass saw the black beer headless and flat in minutes.
Have patronised this pub for many years but sadly we will not be coming back.

This pub has been here for a while, you can tell just be looking at it. It reminds me of a regional town pub because of its older looks.
Pub food was standard, service was attentive but the kids "playroom" needs some restorations and inspirations.

Meals are of high quality. It was Thursday "schnitzel night" and it was perfect. I was surprised and a little disappointed they were not "geared up" to process the Dine and Discover vouchers though. Just took the edge off when we heard that as we were anticipating a much cheaper night out. This is not specifically directed to the Washington Hotel, but the prices pubs charge for a bottle of wine are outrageous. $28 for a bottle of Pinot Grigio that can be purchased in a bottle shop for less than $10 is way over the odds. Even at $10 a bottle, the bottle shop is no doubt making a 50% markup profit. I note they will not allow BYO wine either.

Enjoyed a nice burger lunch, good value, good service.

Nice pub with a standard beer selection (no craft or boutique beers here).

The meals are a good selection of the usual pub grub and serving sizes are huge.

The amenities while dated were clean and tidy.

Nice location, friendly staff.
Icy cold beer on tap. The steak burger I had was quite good but a little small. The lemon slice while tasting nice was rock hard. The long black coffee was pretty average. The pub interior is starting to look a little worn. I'd rank it closer to 3.5 than 4.

Nothing wrong with the pub just nothing to eat! Absolutely no vegan options (even the bloody chips had mayonnaise) and the only vegetarian choice was a beetroot salad, yahoo

Excellent venue with good choices on the menu, courteous friendly staff to look after you. Superb location for views overlooking Newcastle Harbour, with the ships entering & leaving the Port plus the ever changing skyline of Newcastle City.

Happened to be in Stockton on Thursday Schnitty night. Really good, honest pub food. Large meal, thoroughly enjoyed it. Nice staff, obviously well run, efficient kitchen. Recommended.

Nice clean place and nice people serving...I am a local so been there lots..Only thing is which does not effect me as a few people first time there like their cutlets on a big round plate...Their choice I suppose.. Otherwise all good as usual...Chips are so good, so i tried them, well done chef...Hope all you guys do great and keep up the quality and prices ..Oyster price very fair as well and Sydney rock not Pacific...Good also to be able to buy a bottle of red around $22..Yeah!

What a friendly pub. We had 2 meals here while staying in Stockton. Both were generous, well cooked meals. Theres a nice range of wines and the bar staff were friendly good natured. Its a five minute ferry ride into Newcastle as well so highly recommended.

Had 2 lovely dinners tonight. Grilled salmon & grilled mahi-mahi. Both absolutely delicious & perfectly cooked. Very impressed. Music is not the best, and we had to move away from the smoking room, but the dining was top notch.

Had a beautifully fresh meal with friends today. Staff were courteous and very professional. All were a credit to the hotel. Very respectful of the Covid regulations and very very friendly. I highly recommend a visit to this hotel and lovely seaside town.
