Checked in and went to dinner as we had been on the bike for 10 and a half hours. Menu seemed to be fairly standard, ordered a steak sandwich and a chicken schnitzel with chips and garden salad.
There was a bit of a wait considering there weren't many at all in there eating. When the schnitzel came out, it was sitting on a beetroot puree. No where on the menu did it mention this, nor is it common to find anything under your schnitzel than chips... and that's even frowned upon. We didn't eat here again on our trip.
The room was nice, carved out of the hill and you expect a little dust and particles. You can tell though when things have never been wiped down. The mini fridge for instance, clearly had a build up of dirt on the top, behind and along the shelf and also quite a large amount in the compressor area of the fridge.
Why this fridge wasn't put inside a built in cupboard is beyond me. The lack of cleanliness continues to the bathroom. Again, I can understand we are in the desert and in an underground room... but that doesn't mean you can leave the space dirty. The floor clearly wasn't even swept.
The "king" room was actually 2 single beds pushed together... not really the romantic getaway when it feels like a wall dividing you. All the advertising material shows king mattress and base. There was also no extra blanket I could find and the room was quite cold. I woke up numerous times and had to put on layers.
They also harp on about how the electricity is the highest in the country, but will open the doors to the underground rooms and hold them open with a wedge... all day... all while a split system air-conditioner just above the door is set to 27 🤣🤦♂️🤷♂️
They must've just don't renovations or closed down an area, because the entrances are clearly designed to be used differently. One feels like a pub and pokies, the other a grand entrance that invites you in and has you wondering.
There is also problems with the online check in... if you're in any doubt of sending a picture of your drivers license.. DON'T. They only need the number, and they didn't even know where the image of the license we uploaded was stored as they "didn't get it".
I hope to spend a lot more time in Coober pedy, not sure that I'd stay here again.
